About TerraZia

ABOUT OUR COMPANY
 

TerraZia Corporation was founded June 2004 for the purpose of engaging in three primary business activities:

  • Promote sustainable design and green building products
  • Inform people about national and global environmental issues via various mass media
  • Design and build high-performance environmentally conscious buildings

 

We are implementing a strategy of change for our built environment and you can too.

Mission Statement

TerraZia Corporation positively impacts our environment by producing entertaining and educational television programs and designing and constructing high performance buildings that encourage the public, builders and manufacturers to implement a strategy of change for the building industry. Earned profits sustain the organization and equitably compensate all contributing stakeholders.



President & Founder

Steve Sunderman is founder, President and Chairman of TerraZia Corporation. He is a Virginia licensed architect with National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) certification and is a LEED Accredited Professional with the USGBC. He is a 1974 graduate of the University of Oklahoma with over 35 years of diversified architectural experience, including extensive energy and utility auditing work, throughout the United States and the Middle East. He has promoted alternative energy, conservation and environmental design since the late 1960's.

Steve is deeply committed to helping create a healthier planet by positively impacting our built environment through design and construction of high-performance buildings and, via the mass media, encourage builders, designers, manufacturers and the general public to embrace sustainable building practices as a means to implement a strategy of change for our built environment.



Location

Corporate offices are in Roanoke City, which is in southwestern Virginia along the famous Blue Ridge Parkway. Roanoke is a five-time All-America City, One of America's Most Livable Communities in 2004 and is a 45 minute drive from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg.


Definitions

  • TerraZia: A term coined by Steve Sunderman by joining Terra, the Latin word for Earth, and Zia, the Native American symbol for the sun and a balanced life.
  • Sustainable: Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
  • Earth-Sheltered: A building or structure where the exterior is fully or partially covered by earth.
  • Green Products: Building products with minimal toxicity, reusability, energy efficiency, eco-responsible packaging, recycled content, manufactured with minimal environmental impact, and minimal artificial materials.
  • LEED: Leadership In Energy and Environmental Design.
  • USGBC: U. S. Green Building Council.
  • Universal Design: Design of products and environments to be usable by all people, to the greatest extent possible, without the need for adaptation or specialized design.
